What is the Recovery Time for Eyelid Surgery?

The natural process of aging can cause you to look tired even when you’re feeling well-rested. It can also take a toll on your vision. Fortunately, eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty,  can help. Eyelid surgery may remove excess skin, resolve dropping eyes, and take years off your complexion. If you’re bothered by aging in your eye area and longing for a way to look vibrant and life, it may be a good option. Keep reading to learn more about what you can expect from the recovery process.

Blepharoplasty Recovery Process

Immediately after you undergo eyelid surgery, you’ll return home with ointment on your incisions. You can expect sutures to be removed at your first follow-up, which will likely take place five to seven days after the surgery.

Dr. Gonyon will ask you to stay away from heavy lifting and rigorous physical activity for at least a few days after surgery. Once your swelling and bruising has faded away and you feel comfortable going out in public, you can resume work and social activities.

As with all surgical procedures, there are some side effects. In addition to swelling and bruising, you may experience dry eyes, soreness, or difficulty closing your eyes. The good news is these side effects are often tolerable and short-lived.

After about three months, you’ll start to really notice your final results. In six months, you’ll enjoy a dramatic improvement and look your very best.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery

There are a number of benefits you may enjoy if you opt for a reconstructive surgery like blepharoplasty. It can open up your eyes and help you look younger. Eyelid surgery can also improve your vision if the excess skin on your upper eye interferes with your ability to see.

Most importantly, however, this procedure can increase your self-esteem and allow you to feel more confident in social situations. While each of Dr. Gonyon’s patients have their own reason for choosing blepharoplasty, the desire to appear younger and slow down the onset of aging in the eye are the most common.
