Whether your breasts have never been the size you’d like or have simply lost volume after pregnancy or weight loss, breast augmentation can help you look and feel great about your body. It can help you feel sexy in and out of clothing and do wonders for your self-esteem and intimate relationships.
To perform a breast augmentation, Dr. Gonyon offers several options for implants, including silicone implants with the highest safety standards paired with an extensive portfolio of size and shape options. These features allow him to give customized surgical options to help you reach your goals.
In addition to offering a wide variety of shapes and sizes of implants, Dr. Gonyon uses intraoperative sizing (sizing during surgery) to ensure that the implant is placed safely in the breast pocket and that the size of the implant meets the patient’s goals. Sizing implants in the operating room allows the surgeon to address asymmetry or rib concavity that may not be apparent to the naked eye at the consult.
You may be a good candidate for breast implants:
Breast augmentation can be customized to fit your body and your cosmetic goals. There are a number of options you can select to ensure your procedure addresses your unique needs and goals. These include:
During your complimentary consultation with Dr. Gonyon, he will listen to your cosmetic goals, evaluate the condition of your breast tissue, and make recommendations about how each of these decisions can help you get the results you desire. Once you have made these decisions, you can schedule your breast enlargement surgery.
Patients treated with breast augmentation often see:
After breast augmentation surgery, you may feel sore and tired for a few days. You’ll likely be able to return to your daily routine the week of your procedure as long as you avoid vigorous physical activity. If you work a desk job, you can expect to return to work a week after the procedure.
When considering breast augmentation, you may be curious about how breast implants will affect cancer screenings. Women with breast implants should get regular mammograms to screen for cancer just like women who have not had breast augmentation. Breast implants do not cause cancer and they do not delay its diagnosis.
In order to achieve the best possible mammogram results with breast implants:
During a mammogram, the clinician will compress your breast between two plates to hold your breast in place and allow for clear imaging. Some women say this is actually more comfortable with breast implants than the mammograms they received before their breast surgery.
Depending on the type of mammogram, either an X-ray or digital image is taken of your breast. The image is reviewed by a radiologist to look for irregularities in your breast tissue. If anything irregular is detected, you will likely need an MRI for follow-up testing. Depending on your type of breast implant, you may have regular MRIs anyway. They are recommended for silicone implants to check for rupture.
When you have breast implants, as an extra screening measure you will usually have four additional images taken during your mammogram. These are called implant displacement views, and they allow the radiologist to see the portion of your tissue in front of the breast implant.
Breast implants are not considered to be a lifetime medical device, nor should they be. Over time, you may decide to have them removed or replaced for a different size, or even to change the type of breast implant you have.
Breast implants can last for 10-20 years, depending on the patient, without any noticeable changes. While the most common reasons for breast implant exchange are because the patient wants a change in their appearance or would like to change from saline breast implants to silicone breast implants, it may also be performed for medical reasons. Some patients may have noticeable rippling in their breast implants, while others may experience capsular contracture (scar tissue around the implant).
Replacing breast implants can be a much easier breast augmentation procedure for patients to undergo. It can be a less invasive surgery, with less pain, and there is a faster recovery since the original breast augmentation pocket still exists. Of course, this depends on the circumstances for the breast implant exchange.
Requesting a breast implant exchange at any time is possible. If you would like different cup sizes, a new breast shape, or would like to upgrade the type of breast implant, breast implant exchange is a good option for you.
