As we age, the body stores fat differently and can be more difficult to get rid of in common areas such as the stomach, arms, legs, flanks, face, and neck. Some patients have excess fat due to their genetics, often on the side of the breasts, hips and the outer thighs. That’s where liposuction comes in.
Liposuction is a body contouring technique that can remove excess fat from problem areas that do not respond to diet and exercise alone. It’s the ideal choice if you’re interested in firming up your stubborn areas. The best time to consider liposuction is when you are close to your goal weight and your weight has been stable for a significant amount of time.
There are several types of liposuction or fat removal surgery available today, with Dr. Gonyon’s preferences of tumescent liposuction, standard liposuction with the use of a salt water, adrenaline and anesthetic solution to help numb the area and break up fat deposits.
While there are many different types of liposuction, the basics remain the same. Liposuction is performed in our AAAASF-accredited surgical facility. To perform liposuction Dr. Gonyon will make a few small incisions in the area being treated. A thin metal tube, known as a cannula, is inserted through these incisions and suction is applied to remove the fat.
The differences in surgical techniques are the size of the incision and cannula used, and the solution used to assist in breaking up the fatty deposits.
