Our Microneedling packages are more popular than ever. Recently, I sat down with Rachel, our aesthetician, to talk about why she’s so passionate about microneedling.
Question: What is micro needling?
Rachel: Microneedling is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy and that’s exactly what it does…it stimulates collagen and elastin production within the skin! It is minimally invasive, causes minor discomfort, and is highly effective.
Question: What kind of skin conditions can microneedling treat?
Rachel: Along with treating the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it is also effective and recommended for the treatment of acne scarring, stretchmarks, large pores, pigmentation, and will improve overall skin texture and tone.
Question: What equipment is used for microneedling?
Rachel: We use the Eclipse Micropen Elite which is an advanced medical-grade device. It uses automated technology and 12 sterile points to create microscopic pin pricks or wounds to the skin. This process encourages the skin’s natural healing process and creates accelerated cell turnover. These 12 points also produce micro channels in the skin allowing products applied topically to penetrate deeper into the skin and to work more effectively.
Question: Is Microneedling uncomfortable?
Rachel: Because a topical numbing agent is applied to the skin prior to the treatment, the patient remains fairly comfortable and experiences a feeling similar to light sand paper gliding across the skin. Healing time is unique to each patient, but on average, patients’ skin in the treated area can be red up to 2 to 4 days. Immediately following treatment, patients notice a “glow” to their skin.
Question: What type of results have you seen?
Rachel: I’ve been performing Microneedling with the Eclipse Micropen for over 2 years. After treatment, visible improvement to the skin occurs over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to occur for up to 6 months. It’s exciting to see the the improvements that happen over the months following treatments.
Questions: Have you seen better results with repeated treatments?
Rachel: Some patients only require a single treatment once or twice a year to achieve their optimal results. However, for most patients, a series of 3 treatments spaced about 4-8 weeks apart could be needed for the best results. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals. A treatment recommendation is part of the complimentary consultation process.
