Dermal Fillers vs. Botox: What’s the Difference?

Two of the most popular anti-aging treatments include Botox and dermal fillers. While many patients believe these treatments are the same, they actually have different goals. So what’s the difference between dermal fillers and Botox? Can you benefit from both treatments? Keep reading to learn more.

The Difference Between Botox and Fillers

The reality is that while Botox and fillers target common aging concerns, they are quite different. Botox prevents muscle contractions to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Fillers, however, are formulated with hyaluronic acid to add volume to the face, which naturally diminishes as we go through the natural process of aging.

When we inject Botox, we do so in the crow’s feet and other dynamic wrinkles that pop up every time you make facial expressions. Fillers can be used to correct moderate to severe static facial wrinkles.

How long do the Botox and filler results last? While Botox lasts 3 to 4 months, fillers can last anywhere between 9 to 18 months. Both treatments do not come with any downtime so you can resume and your daily responsibilities right away. They are also painless so you don’t have to worry about any pain or discomfort.

Botox and Fillers Offer Dramatic

Since Botox and fillers treat different aging concerns, Dr. Gonyon encourages patients to receive them at the same time. They can diminish the appearance of your fine lines and wrinkles and restore volume in your cheeks and other areas that appear deflated. Although it may cost more to get Botox and fillers simultaneously, it is worth the money as you’ll be left with more dramatic and longer-lasting results.

Good Candidates for Botox and Fillers

If you’re in search of a non-invasive way to treat dynamic and static wrinkles, you should opt for Botox and fillers at once. This combination treatment can rejuvenate your face and restore a younger-looking, more attractive complexion. It’s an effective alternative to surgery and can take years off your face with absolutely no downtime. During a consultation, we’ll inform you whether you can benefit from both or one of these treatments.
