Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift: What’s the Difference?

Two of the most common breast procedures women undergo are for breast augmentation or breast lift. Even though both of them have different goals, they are often used interchangeably. So, what’s the difference between breast augmentation and a breast lift? Keep reading to find out so you can determine the ideal option for you.

Breast Augmentation

The main purpose of a breast augmentation is to enhance the size and shape of your breasts. A breast augmentation may make sense if you wish your breasts were larger and/or more symmetrical. Essentially, a breast augmentation increases the size of your breasts and changes them so you can feel more confident in your own skin. It’s important to note that breast augmentation will not correct breast sagging or drooping.

Breast Lift

With a breast lift, Dr. Gonyon can lift your breasts to restore a youthful appearance. If you are bothered by drooping or sagging breasts as a result of aging, weight fluctuations, or pregnancy, you may be a great candidate for a breast lift. After a breast lift, you can expect a perky, lifted look. A breast lift can also raise the position of the nipples and reduce the size of the areola (the darker pigmented skin that surrounds the nipple.)However, the size of your breasts will remain the same.

Can a Breast Augmentation Be Combined with a Breast Lift?

Depending on your case, Dr. Gonyon may recommend that you pair a breast augmentation with a breast lift. This can allow you to improve the size and shape of your breasts while enjoying a perkier, lifted look. If you are bothered by smaller breasts as well as sagginess and droopiness, combining these two procedures may be the way to go.

Recovering From Breast Surgery

After a breast-related procedure, you’ll need to refrain from strenuous activity for at least 48 hours. While you will likely experience swelling and soreness, these symptoms will subside within 4 to 6 weeks.

To ensure proper healing, you’ll need to visit our facility for follow-up appointments and adhere to all of Dr. Gonyon’s recovery instructions.
