How Long is Recovery From a Facelift?

A facelift is the ultimate solution for moderate to severe sagging in your face. When this procedure is performed by an experienced, board-certified surgeon like Dr. Gonyon, it can help you look 5 to 10 years longer. If you’re interested in a facelift but are unsure of the recovery process, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect from a facelift recovery.

Facelift Recovery Process

After a facelift, you’ll likely be able to return home the same day. It’s a good idea to ask a trustworthy friend or family member to assist you with the recovery process. You’ll need to get plenty of rest and sleep with your head elevated for at least the first few days after the procedure. While you may notice some swelling and bruising on your face, these side effects are short-lived and will resolve on their own within a few weeks.

If you have a desk job, Dr. Gonyon may clear you to resume work after about two weeks. You may also participate in light exercises at this time. Generally speaking, it takes approximately four weeks to completely recover from a facelift. Rest assured Dr. Gonyon will provide you with detailed recovery instructions and see you in his office for follow-up appointments.

Tips for a Healthy Facelift Recovery

If you’d like to ensure a timely, smooth recovery process, there are certain tips you should follow. When it comes to your diet, make sure it’s loaded with fruits, veggies, and proteins. Take it easy with work and other responsibilities so you can get as much rest as possible during the initial few weeks after your facelift.

Make every effort to avoid scratching your face even if it feels itchy. This may remove brand new skin and lead to uneven healing. If you’re too tempted to scratch, Dr. Gonyon may prescribe special medications. You should also stay out of the sun and wear sunglasses as well as a wide brimmed hat if you do go outside.
