How Long is Recovery From a Breast Lift?

As you go through the various stages of life, you may notice unpleasant changes in your breast shape and firmness. Genetics, pregnancy, gravity, and the natural process of aging may all be to blame. Fortunately, you can restore your youthful, perky breasts with a breast lift. If you like the idea of rejuvenating your breasts but lead a busy lifestyle, keep reading to learn about the breast lift recovery process.

What to Expect During a Breast Lift?

A breast lift is an outpatient procedure that Dr. Gonyon performs under general or local anesthesia in two to three hours. Your unique aesthetic goals will determine where he marks the incision.

The options, however are a periareolar incision around the nipple, a lollipop incision, which is a combination of a periareolar incision and vertical incision, and an inverted-T incision (a lollipop incision that continues along the fold of the breast.) Once Dr. Gonyon removes the excess skin, he’ll close the incisions.

If you undergo a breast lift, you can expect long-lasting results. However, just like other parts of the body, your breasts will continue to age. The good news is they’ll always appear in better shape than if the procedure was never performed. You can also receive another breast lift down the road if you’d like.

Breast Lift Recovery

After a breast lift, you’ll notice bruising and swelling on your breasts for about two weeks. You may also experience a bit of pain and soreness near your incisions, which will be pink or red for a few months. Numbness in your nipples, areola, or breast skin may continue for six weeks or so.

Dr. Gonyon will suggest that you sleep on your back or side to keep the pressure of your breasts. You should also stay away from bending or lifting and wear a soft support bra for at least a few weeks. In addition, you may want to wear a silicone tape or gel to expedite the process of healing.

If you work, you should take at least five days off to recover. After one week, you may return to non-vigorous activities and limit exercise and heavy lifting for another two weeks.
