The way your skin looks today has a lot to do with last night’s skin care regimen. Our Fort Collins patients often ask us which skin care products and skin care routines to will best help them achieve the smooth, healthy look they want.
In order to wake up with the most healthy, glowing skin possible, schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Denis Gonyon, and try using these 9 Nighttime Skin Care Tips before you go to bed each night:
Tip #1 – Cleanse. This should be a given. If you have particularly oily skin, stick to cleansers with salicylic or glycolic acid.
Tip #2 – Remove makeup. After a thorough cleansing, try applying a small, pea-sized dollop of petroleum jelly across your eyelids and lashes. Then wipe the makeup off with a cotton pad.
Tip #3 – Exfoliate. Only exfoliate two or three times a week.
Tip #4 – Apply a toner. Toners help remove any residual makeup or cleanser still on your face, but be careful to choose only a toner that is specifically made for your skin type.
Tip #5 – Moisturize. Never moisturize before cleansing. If you have oily skin, use a water-based moisturizer intended for your skin type.
Tip #6 – Use silk pillowcases. Silk pillowcases are less abrasive on your skin during slumber.
Tip #7 – Sleep on your back. Even with silk pillowcases, pillows can contribute to wrinkles and creases.
Tip #8 – Use a humidifier. Keeping the air hydrated during the night helps prevent your skin from drying out.
Tip #9 – Get a good night’s sleep. Beauty sleep is real. Sleep deprivation leads to dilated blood vessels and dark circles around the eyes.
