What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition in which men have excessive growth of breast tissue, leading to the appearance of having male breasts. This condition is not uncommon but is still devastating for many men experiencing it. Male breast reduction can remove the excess tissue.

What are the benefits of male breast reduction?

If you are embarrassed to show your chest, the gynecomastia procedure can restore a masculine frame and renew your self-confidence.

How is the male breast reduction procedure performed?

Male breast reduction can be performed with liposuction alone if you only need fat removal, or it can be performed with excision to remove excess skin. Oftentimes a combination of liposuction and excision is used to achieve an optimum result. It all depends on whether you have excess fat, excess glandular tissue or both.

Am I a good candidate for gynecomastia surgery?

If you are a man unhappy with having the appearance of male breasts, then you may be a good candidate for gynecomastia surgery. If you haven't seen your doctor already, we suggest seeing your doctor first to make sure an underlying medical condition isn't causing your gynecomastia. During your complimentary consultation, Dr. Denis Gonyon will determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure and make sure you know all of your options.

How long will I have to stay home from work and rest after the procedure?

Your recovery will depend on the way your procedure is performed. Generally, male breast reduction candidates can return to work within 10 days or less. You will have to take a few weeks of downtime from exercise and for certain types of exercise, you may have to wait 3 to 6 weeks to resume your routine.

How long do the results last?

The results of male breast reduction are permanent, assuming you do not gain a significant amount of weight. If you do gain weight, you may notice an enlargement of the breast tissue again. The majority of gynecomastia patients are very happy with the results and do not have a problem maintaining a healthy and stable weight.

Does gynecomastia surgery leave scars?

Yes, this procedure does leave scars and the location will vary depending on the technique used. In all cases, Dr. Gonyon uses the most minimal incisions possible and puts them in areas where they are the most concealed.
