Dr. Denis Gonyon Serves Fort Collins, Johnstown, Loveland, Longmont and Nearby Areas of Northern Colorado

What is fat transfer?

Fat transfer is a technique that takes fat cells from your own body to augment and re-shape another area of your body, such as the buttocks, breasts or face.

What are some of the ways a fat graft can be used?

Fat transfer can be used for restoring volume and shaping in a number of procedures, including:

Anytime volume and fullness needs to be added, fat transfer can be a great, all-natural option.

Where is the fat taken from?

During a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Denis Gonyon, you and he will discuss what areas of excess fat can be harvested from your body. For many patients, the most common areas of the body with extra fat are:

  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Thighs

During your consultation, Dr. Gonyon can perform an initial exam to see where excess fat is located. The harvest site may also depend on the specific procedure you are using the fat graft for.

How is the fat harvested?

The excess fat is removed with liposuction, a surgical technique that breaks apart and then suctions away targeted pockets of fat.

What happens with the fat after it is removed?

The harvested fat is cleaned and purified into layers of good fat and bad fat. Then, Dr. Gonyon uses thin needles to precisely inject the good fat cells into areas targeted for volume and re-shaping. Dr. Gonyon has the experience needed to not only perform this procedure with utmost precision, but he also has the eye needed to create an attractive, outstanding shape and final results.

Am I a good candidate for fat transfer?

Only a consultation with Dr. Gonyon can determine if you are a good candidate. Generally, the patient must have enough excess fat in a certain area to be harvested. Good candidates for this procedure are generally interested in an optimally natural result, and they wish they could have less fat in a certain area and more volume in another area. The great thing about this procedure is that you can move fat from where you don't want it to an area where you do want it.

How long do the results last?

Fat grafts accepted by your body have the potential to be permanent. In just about all cases, the results are long-lasting.
