Dr. Gonyon's facelift techniques include:
SMAS stands for "superficial muscolo aponeurotic system," and it is the layer of muscle and connective tissue in the mid-plane beneath your skin. By tightening this layer, your facial appearance can be dramatically and beautifully rejuvenated to a more youthful appearance. SMAS tightening targets lower facial signs of aging, such as jowls and vertical neck bands. Excess sagging skin is removed.
SMAS tightening has the benefit of creating a naturally refreshed look. By modifying deep layers of tissue, SMAS tightening provides beautiful rejuvenation results that last many years.
The deep-plane facelift provides dramatic results like SMAS tightening, but the mid-face as well as the lower face is improved with the deep-plane technique. This facelift reverses the signs of aging caused by:
- Descending fat pads beneath the cheeks
- Deep nasolabial folds extending from the nose to the corners of your mouth
- Jowling along the jaw
- Lines below the eyes, and around the mouth and nose
In a deep-plane facelift, Dr. Gonyon can access a deeper layer of fat and muscle below the SMAS layer. If you have significant sagging in the midface and lower face, then a deep-plane technique may be right for you.
The mini facelift is often a great option if you are just beginning to show signs of aging and don't want to wait to correct more advanced aging with a full facelift. The benefits of a mini facelift include:
- Effectively improves subtle signs of aging
- Less invasive than other techniques
- Recovery is relatively fast
A mini facelift uses smaller incisions and lifts the skin and underlying tissue. The results tend to not last as long as facelifts targeting the deeper planes of muscle, fat and other tissue.
The differences between these techniques are fairly technical. The best way to learn more about them and what results you can expect from them is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Gonyon.
