Questions about Mastopexy

Dr. Denis Gonyon Serves Fort Collins, Johnstown, Loveland, Longmont and Nearby Areas of Northern Colorado

Who is a good candidate for breast lift surgery?

A mastopexy, or breast lift, is a typical procedure for women who have breasts that have started to sag and droop due to pregnancy, weight fluctuations, age or genetics; women who have breasts that have lost firmness and contour, or those who have nipples that point downward are ideal candidates for breast lift surgery. If you have lost volume, in addition to firmness, a breast lift combined with breast augmentation may be an option.

How will I be evaluated for a breast lift?

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Denis Gonyon works with all of our patients on an individual basis. When you come to our office for your initial complimentary breast lift consultation, Dr. Gonyon will listen to your goals and carefully assess your physique and take measurements of your breasts to determine how much of a lift will be required to provide you with the results you are looking for. He will also take pictures of your breasts, assess the quality of your skin and evaluate your nipple placement to determine how to best provide you with the look you desire.

Where are the incisions placed for breast lift surgery?

The types of incisions required for your breast lift depends on the amount of lifting you require. The three incision locations are:

  • Peri-Areolar- an oval shaped incision around the areola
  • Lollipop- to achieve more lift, a peri-areolar incision is made as well as an additional vertical incision from the areola to the breast fold
  • Inverted-T or Anchor- for a major amount of lift, the lollipop incisions are made and then include a horizontal incision along the breast fold.

Will the scars from my breast lift surgery be noticeable?

Each incision option has its benefits and drawbacks which will be discussed with you during your initial consultation. Dr. Gonyon will help you make your decision based on your anatomy, the current firmness or loss of volume in your breasts, and the final aesthetic results you hope to achieve.

With a breast lift performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon, your chances of clean, precise incisions greatly helps reduce the appearance of scarring. Your body’s natural ability to heal will play a large role in the long-term appearance of your scars, and many women notice nothing more than faint lines after the first year. Fortunately, due to the placement of the breast lift incisions, any scarring is easily concealable in most clothing, including bikinis and low-cut shirts.
