Questions about Blepharoplasty

Dr. Denis Gonyon Serves Fort Collins, Johnstown, Loveland, Longmont and Nearby Areas of Northern Colorado

What problems does a blepharoplasty address?

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can address several issues around your eyes including removing “bags” from underneath your eyes, removing excess skin that can cause drooping of the upper eyelid, and help restore an alert, more attractive appearance. Eyelid surgery will not address problems such as crow’s feet, but can be combined with nonsurgical procedures including BOTOX® Cosmetic to provide a more youthful appearance.

How is a blepharoplasty performed?

Dr. Gonyon can perform eyelid surgery under local or general anesthesia. If you are concerned about being uncomfortable, Dr. Gonyon will work with you to make sure your procedure is performed with minimal discomfort.

How long with my blepharoplasty results last?

Eyelid surgery has the potential to provide life-long results, but it cannot stop the process of aging or genetics. You can help extend the results of your blepharoplasty by making simple lifestyle changes.. You should adopt a lifestyle with plenty of exercise and a healthy diet, along with using quality skin care and sunscreen daily. Getting sufficient sleep will also help prevent bags and circles from reappearing under your eyes. Prior to considering a blepharoplasty, you should quit smoking, as the affects not only increase the appearance of aging and wrinkles, but can greatly impact your ability to recover and achieve the results you desire.

Are there risks with a blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery is a common and generally safe cosmetic procedure, but risks may include tearing; itchy, burning, or watery eyes; blurry vision, and light sensitivity. These complications are rare and should be temporary. Dr. Gonyon will work with you after your surgery to make sure you are healing appropriately and to deal with any complications you may face.
